Anterior tooth crowding is a common dental problem that can be treated with orthodontic appliances. In this case report, we present the successful treatment of a 22-year-old patient with anterior mandibular tooth crowding using a removable orthodontic appliance.
The patient's chief complaint was anterior mandible tooth crowding. Extra-oral examination revealed a pleasing orthognathic profile with competent lips, while intra-oral examination showed Class I molar and canine relation with anterior crowding. The appliance design consisted of Adam's clasp for retention, labial bow for holding the arch, expansion screw to gain space, and z-spring to push the anterior teeth labially. The patient was instructed to wear the appliance for the whole day and remove it at the time of tooth brushing and eating. The patient was assessed weekly to evaluate the progress and activate the components.
The treatment process lasted for around 3 months, and a lower incisors were successfully aligned in the arch. The patient was satisfied with the progress, and the treatment continue.
Removable orthodontic appliances can be an effective and affordable alternative to fixed orthodontic treatment, especially for patients who cannot afford expensive treatments. In addition, general practitioners can also deliver this treatment with patient satisfaction being a prime importance. This case report demonstrates the success of using a removable appliance in treating anterior tooth crowding in a young adult patient.
